In his latest series on Channel 4, Walking the Americas, explorer and presenter Levison Wood goes on a journey across Central America, from Mexico to Colombia, uncovering all manner of wonders and undergoing many trials and tribulations along the way.

Ethiopia has always been a nation that has been synonymous with suffering. Although it has never invaded another country, it had to withstand several wars aimed at subjugating it. Its sons and daughters may disagree on a host of issues during times of peace but they stand as one when aggressors endangered its sovereignty. Like other nations, however, it has had and continues to have its fair share of traitors. The internecine conflicts that have marked its history have primarily stemmed from the lack of a culture of cooperation, mutual tolerance and rational thinking. Consequently, it has spurned a host of opportunities which could have changed its course for the better. The present set of testing challenges confronting Ethiopia only serves to exacerbate the centuries-old trials and tribulations Ethiopians have undergone at the hand of tyrants and elites vying for power. The confusion reigning in the county due to the abject failure of the political class and society to settle differences in a constructive manner has not helped either.
